easy weeknight Creamy Chicken Alfredo Pasta

Chicken Alfredo is a classic Italian-American dish that brings comfort to dinner time. You could absolutely make your own homemade Alfredo sauce, but I save the recipes that take a bit more time for our weekend meals and for our weeknight dinners, I try to make recipes that are very quick and easy. Here, I am sharing with you how to make this chicken alfredo pasta with Prego sauce.

Traditionally, alfredo pasta is made with homemade creamy alfredo sauce, parmesan cheese, chicken, and fettuccini pasta. And it is amazing! My creamy chicken alfredo recipe is just as delicious. While using a store-bought Alfredo sauce helps me cut on steps to prepare this dish, it does not compromise on the flavor and it is the ultimate comfort food.

Quick and easy weeknight meal â€“ There is nothing better than a delicious meal that everyone will love that comes together quickly and does not require a ton of ingredients. After a long day of work, the last thing we want to be doing is going home and spending hours making dinner. As the chicken breast chunks and the alfredo sauce are cooking, the pasta is cooked as well and then all is combined to marry all the wonderful flavors together. You most likely have a jar of Alfredo sauce and a box of pasta in your pantry right now, and that makes making this pasta recipe so quick and easy.

Versatile pasta recipe â€“ We have made so many different variations when it comes to pasta recipes. The recipe I am sharing now is made with chicken breast tenders, parmesan cheese, Alfredo sauce, and Cavatappi pasta. But the beauty of this quick weeknight meal is that you can substitute the ingredients with the ones you have on hand and still make this easy recipe in less than 30 minutes.

Ingredients and Substitutions

List of ingredients, cavatappi pasta, chicken tenders, alfredo sauce, shredded cheese and seasonings

  • Chicken tenders – you can use chicken breasts and cut them into bite-size cubes. You can also use rotisserie chicken or even grilled chicken, or any leftover chicken if you have any. This will make this chicken pasta recipe, even quicker to make.
  • Cavatappi pasta – feel free to use your favorite pasta or what you have on hand. You can make this pasta dinner with penne, elbow, fettuccini, rigatoni, and bowtie pasta, just to name a few.
  • Alfredo sauce – Alfredo sauce is a mix of cream, butter, and parmesan cheese. It is not difficult to make at home, but I always have a jar of storebought Alfredo sauce on hand and it is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.
  • Parmesan cheese – You can use shredded cheese or grab a wedge and shred it yourself. You can use any kind of shredded cheese you like but I would recommend using Parmesan cheese as its flavor works very well with the Alfredo sauce.
  • Salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  • Vegetables – You can also add some fresh spinach, broccoli, or any other vegetable you have on hand.

How to make this easy creamy chicken Alfredo pasta recipe

Start by boiling a large pot of salted water. Once it comes to a boil, add your pasta and cook per the instructions on the box or until al dente (firm to the bite). While the pasta is cooking, cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet and add the chicken. Season it with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until golden brown, about 7-10 minutes. When the chicken is cooked, add the jar of alfredo sauce and stir well. Add half a cup of water to the jar, twist the cap on, and shake the jar gently to ensure all the sauce is collected. Add that to the skillet as well and stir well. Turn the heat to medium-low and cook the sauce until it thickens a bit.

Then add your shredded cheese and the drained pasta. You can reserve a little bit of the pasta water and add some to the sauce. It helps the sauce stick to the pasta better and also helps in making the sauce even creamier.

Garnish with some parsley and extra shredded cheese, plate, and enjoy!
