Cuisine American, Italian
- 1 package mild Italian sausage 5 links
- 2 large bell peppers sliced
- 2 medium yellow onions sliced
- 1 cup marinara sauce tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- salt and black pepper to taste
Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large pan that has a lid. When the oil is hot, add the sausages and brown them slowly on all sides.
While the sausage is cooking, cut the onions and the peppers into ½-inch strips.
Remove the sausages from the pan and set them aside on a large cutting board to cool down. (Note: You do not need to cook the sausages through at this point.)
Add the onions and peppers to the pan. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until soft and browned (5-10 minutes)
In the meantime, slice the sausages into ½” – 1” pieces. The sausage will still be pink in the middle.
Add the sliced sausages back to the pan with the peppers and onions and stir well to combine.
Add the tomato (marinara) sauce and the water and stir well to combine.
Season per taste with salt and black pepper.
Put the lid on, and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium-low heat, until the sauce has reduced a little and the sausages are cooked all the way through.
Serve over polenta, with rice or pasta, on a hoagie roll, or just on its own, and enjoy!
